Kirkham Systems Needs a Website Designer

Submitted by Tom on March 12, 2008 - 9:04am.

Kirkham Systems also needs a website designer.  If you know what php, mysql, apache and linux is, you could be the right candidate.  If you build websites in Frontpage, well..., uh, I doubt you have the apptitude we are looking for.  If you know what CMS, LAMP, Drupal, and Zen Cart are, then we really want to speak with you.

Stop by with a resume (no phone calls, please) and ask for Ashley.

Hmm... Does using Notepad or EditPlus dock my points any? haha.

Hey, I'd be more than willing to work for you guys... Just as long as I didn't have to pay you $100/hr. I replied to your email Shayne, I'm not sure if you received it or not.

Submitted by Shayne on April 17, 2008 - 2:15pm.

Spam filter caught it but I have it now.  Website designers are hard to come by in our area.

Do I qualify if I build websites with Microsoft Publisher? Thanks

Submitted by Shayne on April 15, 2008 - 3:30pm.

100 Dollars an hour sound good, you can just pay us weekly for however many hours you work. Thanks

I think I need to clarify a few things.

First of all, if all you use is a text editor to build sites, we want to talk to you.  If you use Notepad++ or one of the other geek tools, you at least have the aptitude we need.

If you are over the primitive belief that only "programmers" deal with databases, then so much the better.  In fact, if you really believe that web designers deal with web sites and programmers deal with databases, then you probably will not like working here.  Not because everyone will hate you (and they will: they like to shrink-wrap and super glue personal belongings of those that are not of their geek accomplishments) but you will not be able to actually do your job with those blinders on, and that does not bode well for continued employment.  Web sites without database backends are so 2001.

Oh, and if you think SEO is nothing but keywords and meta-tags, remember you are applying for a web designer position, not an Internet marketing position, so keep quiet about the meta-tag thing - it won't help.

Publisher?!?!  Thats funny.  Anyone use Word?

Just wondering if there was any need in whipping up a resume/portfolio? I use EditPlus text editor, WS_FTP Pro, Adobe PhotoShop CS2, FireFox with FireBug, and trying to learn SwishMax.

I know HTML very well
I'm competent in graphics
I'm still learning php
I'm so so with javascript
I know what Drupal is, however I've never used it as I've always worked with wordpress.
I've never used zen cart, but i've worked with os commerce

I guess it's pretty much common sense that these would go hand in hand with HTML, but I did fail to mention that I know CSS and XML as well.

We would like to see your resume.

Ok, that's always a good start! What are your hours? I may try to get something together today and bring it by tomorrow.

Our hours.

Submitted by Josh (not verified) on July 11, 2008 - 2:58pm.

I guess I'll shoot for Monday then. I never realized how difficult it is to write a semi decent resume, so it's been an all day ordeal. I do however have a link that you can stick in your pocket for later if you want.

Currently blank, but should have my portfolio up and running on it by tomorrow mid-day if you would like to take a look.

Until Monday, I suppose I'll be pushing pencils trying to hack up a resume. Look forward to seeing you Monday!

Sorry, it took me longer than I had expected to get my portfolio online. It is up now though.

Ok, so I have my resume ready and my portfolio is online... I don't get off work until 2pm, so I will be coming by there sometime between 3 and 4pm today. Look forward to seeing you then.

Hi Tom,

I'm sorry I didn't get to meet with you personally on Monday, but I did drop off my resume. They said that you were pretty busy in a meeting which is understandable. I just wanted to follow up and make sure that you received my resume. If you have any questions about ANYTHING on my resume or anything at all you'd like to ask me, feel free to call me at the number provided on the second page of my resume.

Just wanted to poke my head in and let you know that I am still interested in the position. I know you (Shayne) had said that you would bring me back in sometime this week for another interview, but I'm assuming you guys must have gotten pretty swamped.

Just let me know when would be a good time for you and I'll be there.

Josh Jones
